CURRENT PROJECTS

A GAME OF YOU

A Game Of You is an intense one-on-one theatrical journey of self-experience. It’s a tailor-made experience for one audience at a time in a maze of characters under mirrors and projections. Each audience enters the space alone, walking through different rooms, having different encounters. Gent-based Ontroerend Goed and Tempest Projects created a new Mandarin version that played for 6 months and took over 7000 audiences towards an unexpected journey, at a lively, troubling and playful pace.

THE SMILE OFF YOUR FACE

Welcome to the dark stage. The Smile Off Your Face is a performance that resolutely offers a totally different “viewing” experience. You are blindfolded, sitting in a wheelchair, tied up. There’s no stage. There’s no public. In fact, you don’t know where you are. You imagine something. Everything happens only in your head, and yet it doesn’t. Ontroerend Goed created a new mandarin version of their legendary show in Shanghai.

Brecht’s First Play

A radical new adaptation of Brecht’s Baal written when he was only 18. Baal tells a story of a rebellious poet-musician who rejects the conventions of bourgeois society by choosing alcoholism and anarchy. Brecht was creating a new type of anti-hero - a character audiences would reject rather than sympathise with. But the character presents a problem for contemporary audiences: how can this horrendous person be presented without celebrating his violence? How do you stage Baal today?

Dead Centre duet Ben Kidd and Bush Moukarzel proposes a solution — to “cancel” Baal — taking him out of the action in the same way that many cancelled figures disappear from society, protecting the world from their transgressions. Every society relies on a kind of expulsion, a means of defining what constitutes “good” behaviour - defining “the kind of people we are”.
